View RecordsCheck the state, Pennsylvania’s online divorce-access limit, and the correct clerk before requesting Westmoreland County divorce filings or a decree.
Westmoreland County divorce filings belong to different offices in Pennsylvania and Virginia. Pennsylvania uses the Prothonotary in Greensburg; Virginia uses the Circuit Court Clerk in Montross. Start with the state shown on the case papers or the place where the divorce was filed, rather than either spouse’s current address.
Decide whether you want to find an existing case, read a complaint or motion, or obtain the final decree. A complaint starts a proceeding; it does not by itself demonstrate that a divorce was granted. If another organization asks for proof of divorce, ask whether it requires a certified decree before purchasing ordinary copies.
iJEMS offers public docket searching without document images. Image-access subscriptions are listed at $52 for one month or $250 for one year, but divorce and custody cases from 2018 onward are not viewable there under its confidentiality policy. Paying for a subscription does not remove that exclusion.
For eligible older material, the site supports partial first and last names when spelling is uncertain. Match both parties and the filing period before selecting a case. For a recent filing, missing entry or access problem, use the Prothonotary rather than concluding that no divorce exists. iJEMS help is 724-830-3507 or [email protected].
The county’s decree instructions ask for plaintiff and defendant names, the case number if available, the approximate year the divorce began, a contact phone number and a self-addressed envelope. Include names used during the proceeding, especially when a name has changed since the decree. A case number is useful but is not listed as mandatory when unknown.
Use a money order payable to Westmoreland County Prothonotary’s Office; personal checks are not accepted for this request. The filing office is on the fifth floor of the Courthouse Annex, 2 North Main Street, Greensburg, PA 15601, open Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. Call the decree-help line, 724-830-3503, to confirm the needed copy and mailing arrangement.
The linked family-court schedule lists a divorce decree at $23, ordinary copies at $0.75 per page, and a certificate at $6.75. Email/fax copies are $3.25 for the first page and $1.30 for each later page. Ask which charges apply to your requested decree and certification; these entries should not automatically be added together.
The same schedule lists $176 for a divorce complaint and warns that fees are not all-inclusive. That is a filing charge for commencing a case, not the price of searching for or copying an existing divorce. Specify the document and copy format in your inquiry so the office quotes the correct service.
For Westmoreland County, Virginia, call the Circuit Court Clerk at 804-493-0108 or use [email protected]. The office is at 175 Polk Street, Montross, VA 22520; its mailing address is P.O. Box 307, Montross, VA 22520. Published office hours are Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Give the parties’ names, approximate filing year and any known case number, then name the filing or decree sought. Ask the Virginia clerk about permitted access, certification, delivery and the charge for that document. Pennsylvania’s 2018 online cutoff, iJEMS subscriptions and money-order instructions do not establish Virginia rules. If a file is older or unavailable online, ask where it is maintained before abandoning the inquiry.
